Round 1 Report

Epicimpulse vs. Soccarzar: Dawn Division

Newcomer Soccarzar battled veteran Epicimpulse in game 1 of the tournament. Round 1 was a battle of attrition as Epic’s team cornered Zar’s ION-400 and SNO-400. Zar’s ION-400 returned fire and completely drained Epic’s GHILI-400 and knocked the AROZ-400’s reserves to half. Ultimately, Epic’s strategic Restrain attacks and use of Retaliate won him the round. Round 2 quickly became a scrap heap. Epic drew first oil with accuracy buffed ELL-100 missiles, blasting Zar’s ARK-100 into oblivion. Zar responded with a powerful GEL-100 attack, destroying Epic’s SNO-400 and ENDER-100, shutting him out of his combine pool. Epic determined it was do or die and rushed Zar’s IPPL and GEL before they could return fire, resulting in Epic winning the round. In both rounds, Zar’s SNO-400 stood as the last survivor.

Texaport vs. Ders: Zephyr Division

Ders conceded to Texaport due to life circumstances. Texaport moves on and we wish good things for Ders!

Cybermage vs. BrassBGeek: Boulder Division

New comers BrassBGeek slugged it out with veteran Cybermage. The games were short and sweet with both players favoring aggressive teams and jumping right into combat. Game 1 was well fought and came down to a single dice roll, with Cybermage standing victorious! Game 2 went similarly, aggressive teams dealing tons of damage, but the ABB-1000 on team Brass couldn’t be stopped, taking the round for Brass! It was evident in both games, positioning was key, because both teams were so evenly matched. The third game opened with a brutal tactics Cybermage sacrificed his commander, SOL-100 to lure the ARK out of position on team Brass. After the SOL fell, the ARK was destroyed in a single radius attack. With the loss of the ARK on team Brass, the game slid in Cybermage’s favor, until he claimed victory.

Tilt vs. Ensign: Boulder Division

Tilt dropped due to a scheduling conflict, Ensign moves on to the next round!

Jrf123 vs. Morjor: Teapot Division

In the Teapot Division, newcomer friends 123jrf and Morjor brawled it out. Morjor decided to use an aggro team light on combine options, built on thick-skinned bots with high damage output. This handily took down jrf’s more lightweight, combine-focused team, which ran into problems stemming from some rules confusion. jrf has now challenged Brifox to get back into the running!

Gojirazard vs Train: Teapot Division

Combine pool master Gojirazard battled newcomer Train. Goji played defensively round 1, until he saw an opening when Train positioned a few of his robots behind terrain. An early skirmish between Goji’s Gel and Train’s EXYTH resulted in the GEL taking damage. Goji’s AROZ, ION, and ELL led the charge to take out Train’s supporting back line, the SEN and INADE. Train’s EXYTH saw a chance to intercept Goji’s ION, but Jamming helped mitigate the damage allowing the ION to return fire and burn away 3 energy. The next few turns were back and forth, robots moved into position, attacks missed, robots became restrained! Train’s team was low on energy from a multitude of energy burns from Goji, so Train went all or nothing and sent in the ESHA to try and finish off Goji’s team in one spectacular blast! The loss of energy restricted how far the ESHA could move, allowing Goji to move an accuracy buffed ION in to burn away the ESHA’s energy, dropping Train below 4 energy and taking the round. Game 2 quickly became a combine free for all. Goji showcased the power of his team by combining into the AROZ-ELL-SOL with 3 energy remaining on turn one. Train counter-combined into the into ARK-1000 then mode-changed into the INADE-3000, positioning it next to his GOF. Goji used the AROZ-ELL-SOL arcing laser to target Train’s GOF and the resulting splash damage destroyed the INADE-3000. Train moved the EXYTH in to attack, but Goji charged up a laser and finished it off, taking round 2. Goji wins with spectacular combining into the AROZ-ELL-SOL on turn one.

Droyer vs. Oof: Dawn Division

Newcomers Droyer and Oof enter the fray! Droyer has a team of well rounded aggro robots with tons of combining options. There was a bit of rules confusion on Oof’s team, resulting in him conceding both games. Oof suggested a loser bracket for those who got knocked out, and we agree, it’s an excellent idea! Stay tuned for more battles.

Brifox vs. 123jrf: Knockout Division

Brifox had the bye round 1, but 123jrf challenged Brifox for a chance to return to the tournament. Brifox accepts! In round 1, 123 left himself open to a number of piercing laser shots, which Brifox took advantage of, damaging multiples of 123’s robots at once. The next few turns were an even back and forth, until Brifox rolled 2 5’s with his ELL-100, dealing tons of damage and dropping 123 under the 5 energy limit. Round 2: The great standoff. Brifox played aggressively, charging left with his ARK and ELL. 123 mirror moved using his ELL and ARK. The two players stared each other down, trying to outflank and out position each other. Suddenly, Brifox went in for the attack! He was too aggressive, allowing 123’s SEN to do a ton of work, weakening Brifox’s team, resulting in a full team wipe in 123’s favor. Onward to round 3! This time Brifox moved in to the right, 123 matching. 123’s robots were hindered by Brifox’s ELL and ARK allowing Brifox to inch up to 123’s SEN. 123 wasn’t done! His SEN hit Brifox’s ELL, forcing a retreat! Brifox’s ARK is left alone to fend off the front line while his IZZI and SEN combine into the SEN 3000 and heal up the ELL. Brifox sends his ION ahead, draining 123’s ARK and GEL. 123’s SEN continues to support from the back line, hitting Brifox’s ELL again. Brifox heals up and uses careful positioning to force 123 to play around the SEN-3000. 123 sends the ARK to flank Brifox, destroying his ARK then moving in to finish off the SEN! The ELL Brifox kept alive gets an incredible attack on 123’s SEN and ION, rolling double 6’s and destroying them. Brifox Wins!
